With the rise of the SKX Diver, Seiko decided to revive the classic that preceded it. A direct descendant of the Turtles with caliber 6309 and 6309 from the 70s and 80s, Seiko brought back in 2016 one of its most famous cushion cases, with the reference SRP777.
This new Turtle pays homage to its predecessor with the same arrangement of dial, indexes and hands (with the seconds hand being redesigned to follow the SKX model), in addition to maintaining the characteristic dual calendar, screw-down crown at 4:00 and knurled bezel.
The design of the cushion case has been slightly redesigned, with more prominent lugs and maintaining the simple polishing that was very well executed by Seiko.
Highlights of the model:
The robustness of the Prospex line would deserve a separate chapter, but it is worth highlighting that the SRP777 is the step above the SKX007 - it has the possibility of winding via the crown, a hack stage (total stop of the mechanism to facilitate adjustment) thanks to the beloved caliber 4R36 (or refined NH36 or even refined NH35 and with dual calendar).
Furthermore, it is water resistant to 200m and features the extremely powerful Lumebrite luminous material which, aligned with the large indexes and hands, guarantees total legibility in low light conditions - a true ISO 6425 certified diving watch!
The SRP777 is the chance to acquire an iconic diving watch, full of history, extremely competent and that won't hurt your finances.
