The nickname "Pulsations" or "Doctors" comes from its function - known as a complication in the world of horology - of measuring heart rate through its rotating internal bezel.

In addition to its unique design, this announced model features a distinctive "bubble gum" style steel bracelet.

Inside it beats the caliber 6139, known as the first automatic chronograph to be commercially available.

This same caliber equipped the Seiko 6139-6005, with a yellow dial, which would have been the first automatic chronograph to go into space on the wrist of American Colonel William Pogue, on the Skylab 4 mission, in 1973, together with his Omega Speedmaster Professional (Moonwatch), the official watch for space missions certified by NASA.
