A symbol of Tudor's resurgence as a watchmaking powerhouse, the Black Bay “Smiley” is a discontinued watch that is increasingly sought after.
The Tudor Heritage Black Bay quickly became one of Tudor’s most successful models, appealing to watch enthusiasts and professional divers alike. This timepiece not only celebrates the brand’s past, but also marks Tudor’s rebirth as a modern watchmaking powerhouse after a period of relative silence in the 1990s and 2000s.
The Heritage Black Bay 79220R, launched in 2012, is a landmark in the Heritage collection, which celebrates Tudor's legacy by reinterpreting classic designs with modern touches.
This version has a 41mm diameter steel case, with a black dial and gold-colored indexes and hands that perfectly match the red aluminum bezel. Of course, the hour hand is in the “snowflake” style, a hallmark of the Black Bay. Instead of the Tudor shield on current models, there is also a charming rose below 12 o’clock, preferred by nostalgic watch enthusiasts and most of the brand’s enthusiasts. Between the center and 6 o’clock, the curved text resembles a smile, hence the nickname “smiley”.
