Beautiful Universal Genève Polerouter Super with the famous microtor calibre (218), whose case was designed by Gerald Genta, creator of countless other iconic watches of the 20th century.
The microtor movement was created after the Second World War, representing a major technological development at the time.
In the wake of the development and growth of commercial aviation after the Second World War, SAS (Scandinavian Airline System) in partnership with Universal Genève developed the microtor caliber, which was incorporated into the Polerouter line, aiming for greater resistance to magnetic fields at the North and South Poles, as the airline was one of the pioneers in flying long-distance routes carried out by the legendary Douglas DC-6B and DC-7C aircraft.
This new mechanism design allowed the self-winding rotor to be incorporated into the rest of the movement, thus enabling the production of thinner automatic watches, breaking the trend (still seen today) of having it installed above the movement, which highlights how revolutionary the microtor calibre was.
Recently, in 2023, Breitling acquired UG, probably because of its importance in aviation history. Many collectors and enthusiasts were excited by the news, expecting faithful relaunches of classic models, following the trend of other brands.
The watch is in excellent condition. The dial is original, undamaged, with a very beautiful uniform champagne patina. The hands, indexes and logo are undamaged and original. The calendar wheel has the iconic open 6 and 9. The case has been lightly polished, but retains its original features, unsigned crown.
